Bringing color into our homes and lives after a somewhat dreary winter brightens even the rainiest days. Pink is one of those “happy ” colors. Pink, in all of its forms and tones, was THE hottest color at the Paris Maison and Objet Design show this winter. It was the one clear trend that captured my attention. This curved pink couch and flamingo wallpaper is just a small sampling of the many showrooms and displays featuring pink the winter.
Perhaps the most photographed example of pink at the Paris Design show was this whimsical chair of pink flamingos. Certainly not for everyone, but fun to imagine a home filled with such unique objects.

When I returned home, I realized that I have very little pink in my own home, even though it is such a peaceful color. I have always loved the Rococo colors of Fragonard paintings, but did not think they would work in my more neutral home. In the past, we associated pink with little girls, but in recent years, pink has become gender neutral, universal color. Though the dramatic looks from Paris don’t always suit a Bucks County lifestyle, pink is proving to be more than a fly- by-night color trend which will feel “out” next year.
Pink really screamed into the fashion and design world back in 2012. In 2015, Pantone picked Rose Quartz as its color of the year and the trend continued with rose gold iPhones, Michael Kors watches, and Tiffany and Cartier jewelry. Recently at the 2017 Met Ball, pink was once again revealed as a celebrity favorite. In 2016, Veronique Hyland wrote a post titled “Is there a reason why Millennial Women love this color,” which coined the term “Millennial Pink” for the soft, pale beige pink.
Pink continues to mix in with neutrals seamlessly. Feel free to paint an entire room pink if you love it! If you are not that brave, here are 5 great ways to bring pink into your home without making too much of commitment.
1. Pillows: Adding pink pillows to this neutral room brightens this space without overwhelming the eye. Pair pink with earthy tones; think terra-cotta, burgundy, and tan.
2. Flowers: Faux or real, flowers are the easiest and least expensive way to bring in pink textures and colors.
3. Add Black: Match pink with black lines for a more masculine effect .
4. Furniture: Choose one unique, focal piece of furniture. Love this chair from Uttermost. This velvet, tufted couch from Anthropologie looks so inviting.
5. Art: The key to art is finding what you love. It is a wonderful way to bring pops of color into an otherwise neutral room.
“La Vie en Rose” literally translates to Life in Pink. It is better translated as life through rose colored glasses. I hope that these ideas bring a little pink into your space, and will add cheer and warmth to your home.
